Single Alarm Structure Fire in Daly City

On October 7, 2012 at 12:20 p.m., 6 Fire Companies, 2 Chief Officers and 1 Fire Investigator responded to a report of structure fire at 315 Irvington Street in Daly City.

The first arriving fire company reported a working fire at the two-story single family residence. Fire companies made entry into the home and using hose lines extinguished the fire. The two residents at home were able to safely evacuate and fire crews rescued and treated 14 cats, two of which subsequently died of their injuries, and 1 dog for smoke inhalation. Fire personnel remained on scene for approximately two hours checking for further extension of the fire and completing extensive overhaul. There were no injuries to the residents or fire personnel and Red Cross was contacted to assist with alternate living arrangements for the victims. Additionally, the Peninsula Humane Society responded to assist with sheltering of the displaced animals.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Prevention Bureau and the North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke detectors in their home.
