Residential Structure Fire - City of Daly City

On September 11, 2024 at 10:12 a.m., 6 Fire Companies, 2 Chief Officers, and 2 Fire Investigators responded to a residential structure fire at 531 Skyline Dr., in the City of Daly City.

The first arriving fire company found heavy smoke and fire coming from a single story, single family dwelling. Firefighters made entry and began search and rescue operations while simultaneously using hose lines to knock the fire down and prevent fire spread. All occupants had safely evacuated. There were no injuries to citizens or firefighters. Firefighters remained on scene for over two and a half hours checking for extension and conducting overhaul operations. The fire displaced a family of four who are being assisted by local family members.

The cause of the incident was determined to be accidental and the result of rechargeable batteries within a child’s toy riding car, failing while being charged within the home.

North County Fire Authority wants to remind residents to follow the manufactures instructions for any particular battery operated device. In some instances, the manufacturer directs the battery to be removed from the toy or device prior to charging. Always seek a well-ventilated area away from other combustibles while charging devices.
