Cliff Rescue in the City of Pacifica

On February 27, 2021 at 9:40 a.m., 2 Fire Companies, 1 Rescue Unit and 1 Chief Officer responded to a cliff rescue in the area of 380 Esplanade Avenue in the City of Pacifica.

Responding firefighters discovered that an adult female and her dog had been walking along the beach and had to retreat up the side of a cliff due to rising tides.  Due to the steep terrain, they both were unable to walk to the top of the cliff and needed to be rescued.

Firefighter/paramedics set up a low angle rope rescue system and repelled down the side of the cliff, approximately 50 feet to reach the victim and her dog.  The victim, her dog and the firefighter/paramedics were then lifted up the side of the cliff to safety. The victim was assessed by firefighter/paramedics at the scene and only suffered minor injuries.

There were no injuries to any of the firefighters, and the incident was mitigated in approximately one and a half hours.
