Apartment Structure Fire in Pacifica

On January 22, 2015 at 7:26 p.m., 6 Fire Companies, 2 Chief Officer and 1 Fire Investigator responded to an apartment building structure fire at 89 Montecito Avenue in the City of Pacifica.

The first arriving fire company found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of a two-story apartment building.  Firefighters made their way to the location of the flames to find fire coming from the garage portion of the building complex and utilizing fire attack hose lines were able to extinguish the fire and hold the fire from extending into the living portion of the apartment complex and units. There was however 1 civilian smoke inhalation injury to an occupant whose apartment unit was directly over the fire area, requiring treatment by firefighter paramedics and once stabilized the patient was transported by ambulance to the hospital for further medical evaluation.

The fire caused major smoke damage to at least 1 apartment unit and minor smoke damage to another resulting in three residents being displaced, with the American Red Cross providing housing assistance. Fire companies remained on scene for over two hours completing salvage and overhaul operations and there were no injuries to firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the North County Fire Prevention Services Bureau.

The North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke detectors their homes.
