Apartment Fire - City of Daly City

On April 17th, 2026, at 09:58 a.m., 6 Fire Companies, 2 Chief Officers, and 2 Fire Investigators responded to a residential structure fire at 240 Lake Merced Blvd in the City of Daly City.

The first arriving fire company found thick black smoke coming from the first floor, back kitchen window of a two-story apartment complex. Using hose lines, firefighters made entry into the home and found smoke and flames coming from the kitchen. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire while simultaneously performing search and rescue operations. No occupants were found or in need of rescue and the fire was contained to the rear kitchen, with extensive smoke damage throughout the rest of the home.

Fire companies remained on scene for over two hours checking for fire extension and completing salvage and overhaul operations. Three residents were displaced by the fire. There were no injuries to any of the firefighters or residents.

Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental and started in the kitchen’s electrical oven with multiple combustibles in close proximity to the heating elements.

The North County Fire Authority wants to remind everyone to follow manufacturer maintenance guidelines, regularly clean and inspect electrical equipment, and stop using any item immediately if issues arise until it’s checked by a professional.
