How to Prepare

Learn how to PREPARE for emergencies such as earthquakes, wildfires, and tsunamis.

Every emergency is different, so it’s important to PREPARE thoroughly before one ever occurs and follow directions from first responders—even if they seem different from what you’d normally do.

Here’s how you can PREPARE:

Know Your Zone

Emergency Alerts will be issued according to zone. For example, during a tsunami, you might receive a warning alert to take higher ground. The best way to stay informed is to learn your zone and sign up for emergency alerts.

2

Pack your Go Bag

Have a Go Bag packed for all your family members, including your pets, so you can take action as soon as you receive instructions.

3

Have an Action Plan

Know what to do if you have to evacuate for any reason. Ensure everybody knows two ways out of the house, and designate a meeting spot outside the home.

4

Pay attention to instructions from first responders

Every emergency is different, so it’s crucial to pay attention to the instructions you receive in real time from Genasys Protect and SMC alerts. These instructions may feel counterintuitive, like driving a different route or going against typical traffic rules, but it’s crucial to follow instructions.

Things can also change during an emergency, so be sure your phone is charged and your sound is on so you can pay attention to live alerts in real time.
