Residential Structure Fire in Daly City

On January 27, 2015 at 3:36 p.m., 6 Fire Companies, 2 Chief Officers, and 1 Fire Investigator responded to a structure fire at 499 Evergreen Street in the City of Daly City.

The first arriving fire company found heavy smoke and flames coming from the first floor of a two-story single family residential building.  Firefighters utilizing hose lines made an aggressive fire attack and simultaneously conducted search and rescue operations to ensure there were no occupants remaining in the home. Firefighters were successful in extinguishing the fire and did not allow flames to spread to second floor of the residence.  After a search of the home it was determined that the occupants had self-evacuated.  However, there were civilian injuries in which 1 occupant sustained serious burns to both arms and 2 occupants sustained smoke inhalation injuries requiring treatment at the scene by firefighter paramedics and once stabilized the patients were transported by ambulance to the hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.

The fire caused major fire and smoke damage to the structure, resulting in 6 residents being displaced and the American Red Cross providing housing assistance. Fire companies remained on scene for over two hours completing salvage and overhaul operations and there were no injuries to firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Prevention Services Bureau.
